Mittels markierter Individuen lassen sich verschiedene biologische, \u00f6kologische und demografische Aspekte des Vogellebens beschreiben: Zugverhalten und Zugwege, Ansiedlungsmuster der Jungv\u00f6gel, Ortstreue der Brutv\u00f6gel, Lebenserwartung und Todesursachen. Da diese empirischen Daten auf andere Weise nicht erlangbar sind, geh\u00f6rt die Beringung zu den Standardmethoden ornithologisch-\u00f6kologischer Forschung in aller Welt.
